NFI-CC Visit
Dr. Abdul Ghofar, the Crab Sustainability Envoy to Southeast Asia of the United States National Fishery Institute-Crab Council (NFI-CC), visited the fishery improvement projects (FIPs) for blue swimming crab in the Philippines. Dr. Ghofar keeps track of FIPs throughout Asia and provides recommendations for advancement.
This September, Dr. Ghofar visited the FIPs in Bohol including the blue swimming crab hatchery in the multi-species hatchery of BFAR 7 and holding cages for berried crabs in Jao Island. He was also able to meet Director Nilo Katada of BFAR 7 and Talibon Mayor Restituto Auxtero. A brief orientation on the conservation initiatives for blue swimming crab of the municipality of Talibon was also presented.
Dr. Ghofar has been in the Philippines for the second time this year. He also visited the FIPs in Negros Occidental last April.
